Dartmouth Houses

Close Associates was selected as architect for Dartmouth Place because of its innovative design proposal. Town home ownership was augmented with auxiliary rental apartments in an area near the University of Minnesota which had a demand for both. The units are arranged in three rows to allow phased construction and continue the existing housing pattern. Auxiliary apartments were placed under the townhome decks to minimize noise transfer. The plan allows homeowners to decide how the auxiliary units are used—as play area, home-office or separate apartment for a relative or tenant. The project was a CUE (Minneapolis Committee on Urban Environment) Award winner.
