Seamless expansion

Opened house for entertaining

Built on existing
character

This client had long dreamed of a new kitchen, dining room, library, breakfast place, garage, and rear entry for his home in Saint Paul’s Highland Park Neighborhood. When we discovered part of the existing foundation was faulty, its rebuilding allowed us to also expand the Lower Level into an entertainment area. The additions almost doubled the rambler’s size. Stone, shingles, soffits, windows and trim; every element was chosen to create a seamless look between existing and new. Inside, Gar Hargens worked with interior designer Vikki Peterson and lighting designers Schuler & Shook to find colors and materials that warmed and enlivened the spaces, and lighting fixtures that fit the period. Custom glass shelves separate living and dining. The 20’x20’ Cook’s kitchen features cherry cabinets with an Australian Fir counter and a sitting bay for hungry, supportive guests.
